1 review of Opal Coast

A place that impacted impressionist painters for its light

Excellent

The Opal Coast runs along the coastline that is between the towns of Boulogne-Sur-Mer and Calais in northern France. This route is about 25 km long crossing many types of landscapes, museums, monuments and cities. Many impressionist painters came through the area and were captivated by the light, rapidly changing due to the reflection that the white rocks, mostly in shades of blue . Just outside Calais you can find a series of memorials to World Wars, reinforced by the numerous bunkers constructed by German troops to repel British attack. The truth is that even shudders stand with them. Besides these monuments, located in the countryside, we find the beautiful cliffs of Cape Blanc-Nez, very similar to those of Dover and allow you to follow a natural path along its formation, up to the beautiful beaches that give order to such cliffs.
