Main centers of botany and culture
Since the sixteenth century, the University of Bologna has been one of the main centers of botany and culture in Italy. In 1568, after a proposal by Ulisse Aldrovandi, the Senate established the Bologna Botanical Garden, one of the oldest in Italy. The first headquarters of the Garden were in the Sala Borsa at the Palazzo Publico in the center of the city.
