Palace of Sobrellano

31 reviews of Palace of Sobrellano

Neo-Gothic style

This amazing building is also called the Palace of the Marquis of Comillas since it was built on the same place where his house once stood. It’s was designed by the Catalan architect Juan Martorell.

It was built in the late 19th-century Neo-Gothic style and was furnished by Cascante as well as the painter Lorens and the sculptor Joan Roig.

The Chapel-Pantheon is also part of this palace and is famous for its beautiful marble mausoleum. The furnishings were designed by Gaudí.

It’s one of the most iconic buildings in this charming little village and, thanks to its location right at the entrance of town, gives a welcoming salute to all those who enter.

Sobrellano Palace

The last time I visited, I promised to return…and that is what I have done.
It is, for me, one of the most beautiful palaces I've ever seen.

I couldn’t enter or photograph it in all its glory (it was being restored), but I still admired its beauty from the outside.

Sobrellano Palace was built by the Marquis of Comillas in the same place where his humble home formerly stood.

Thanks to the Marquis!

Excellent

I’m Catalan and I just had to visit Comillas to learn about the town’s curious history involving the Güell family, Gaudí, and other Catalan artists. And I must say “thanks” to the Marquis of Comillas!

We’re lucky to have had someone who dedicated their personal fortunes to creating these grand and eternal monuments. Thanks to the Marquis!
