Processions of Copacabana

1 review of Processions of Copacabana

It is a place of pilgrimage

Copacabana is a beautiful town in Bolivia, on the shores of Lake Titicaca, between Peru and Bolivia. It's a very Catholic pace and they worship the Virgin of Copacabana, called the Black Madonna, or Virgin of Candelaria. Several times a year, they take the Virgin from the church and proceed through the streets of the town. The largest procession is the day of the Virgin of Candlemas, February 2, but they also take it out before Christmas, at Easter, and some more dates. Otherwise, you can visit the chapel and see the virgin, patron of sailors, and also the country's military sailors. It is a place of pilgrimage where people come from around the country to pray and implore the virgin for merciful seas and good sailing conditions.
