San Pedro El Viejo Church

3 reviews of San Pedro El Viejo Church

One of Madrid's Most Ancient Churches

San Pedro el Viejo Church is one of the oldest churches in Madrid. It was first located close to the Plaza de Puerta Cerrada, and it was later moved, in the 14th Century, to the place where it stands today. One of the primary elements of the current building is the Mudejar tower that was built using bricks while integrating simple horseshoe arches.

Inside the temple there is the image of Jesús el Pobre from the 18th Century, carved by Juan de Astorga in Seville. Every Maundy Thursday, there is a procession, and if you are in Madrid during Holy Week, this is one of the processions that shouldn’t be missed.
