Hotel Santa Caterina

Siena is a walled city built in the hills, so there are lots of ups and downs. It's a true trip back in time! It's known for the famous Palio di Siena, a horse race that takes place in July and August in Piazza del Campo, a square is in the heart of the city surrounded by bars and restaurants. It's an ideal place to enjoy a good glass of Chianti, the regional specialty. The city has a number of good hotels. When I was there, I opted for comfort and location and chose the Hotel Santa Caterina. It's a few meters from the Porta Romana and has comfortable rooms, a friendly staff and a breakfast that's above average for Italian hotels in this price range.
