St Martha Church (St Marthakirche)

1 review of St Martha Church (St Marthakirche)

Was once a singing school

The St Martha Church was originally built between 1350 and 1400 as a singing school and auditorium, but became the Evangelical parish church in the latter half of the 14th century. You can still see some of the original stained glass windows dating form this time. From 1578-1620 the church was still used as a theater by the Mastersingers of Nuremberg and church service resumed in 1627. In 1800, it became part of the Reformist Evangelical church, during which time, the paintings and the altar, now in the church of San Lorenzo, were removed.
