Back to tradition

An interesting museum that invites us to understand traditional local activities: the wood and sawmills. In an area like the Black Forest it's not surprising that logging is an economic pillar. The Kinzing river valley, that runs right by the beautiful Schiltach, serves as the engine of the wood industry. The museum shows the experiences of the professionals, sawmills and the old "boat people" who took advantage of the river's power to carry trees. It's in 2 buildings between the river and Kinzing canal, which was old sawmill, we can still see machinery as well as delicious models. The annex building is the Gerberei museum showing another activity in the valley that used the river's force: tanners factories.
