The last inhabitants of Pompeii

It is impressive to visit the figures of the last inhabitants of Pompeii, who ignored the true strength of Mount Vesuvius. On the 24 August in the year 79 a layer of magma fell on them and thus preserved their bodies and the city itself. Under the mantle of magma, the decomposed bodies of the victims left solidified holes in the rock. Decades ago, the archaeologist Giuseppe Fiorelli devised a system to get those last Pompeian figures out. The voids in the rock or plaster molds were filled with liquid, which solidified upon drying and after removing the rock you can see the gloomy sculpture of the people.
