One of spain's most beautiful towns

The photos themselves show pretty clearly that this is no ordinary town. The atmosphere is magical, like being in another world. In my opinion, it's the most beautiful of all the famous White Villages. It's 70km. from Cádiz and you can get there by bus which leaves you at the station in the lower part of town. There's a population of around 30,000 people and the main source of income is tourism. There's a castle, the parochial church of Santa María de la Asunción, and the town hall.

But, the main thing to see here is the town itself. It's a real delight to walk through the white streets, admiring the small little squares and entering into the handicraft stores. Or, you can go to the Parador to have a drink and soak it all in from one of the balconies.

Beauty, natural setting, and sheer whiteness

This is one of the most famous towns among the White Villages. It's obvious that its beauty, natural setting, and sheer whiteness have made it so famous. It's the one they use on all the postcards, and they one they use to represent the White Villages as a whole. And truth is that they have a point. The town is impressive and wherever you look. Just to be contrary, we took photos from the other side of town than the most postcard-ish side. And, wherever you are, it's still the same old beautiful Arcos de la Frontera.

From the heights.

Arcos de la Frontera is situated northwest of the province of Cadiz, being the core of the mountain range of Cadiz and the gateway to the Sierra de Grazalema and White Villages route, one of the most classic of Andalusia. At 160 meters above sea level and bathed in the river Guadalete, Arcos de la Frontera is considered one of the most beautiful villages of Spain. It luminosity testify, labyrinthine streets, the church of Santa Maria Assunta with original frescoes, palaces and manor houses lost in the old town, and the landscape that rises on the hill of La Peña Vieja ram on which sits the town.

Arcos de la Frontera - Cadiz Province Since most of the towns in the area, its location has been occupied by humans since prehistoric times. The Romans also had settlements (as Santiscal) but is much more relevant the presence of Arabs coming era of the layout of its streets, the military fortress, the walls, mills, etc. At the time of dependent Emirate of Damascus (711-757) belonged to the "Cora" of Sidonia. In the eleventh century declares independence and the Emir of Calsena takes the city and away from the influence of Córdoba, becoming a taifa kingdom controlled by a family of Berber origin. Later extension exceeds its walls and are installed in the religious orders, reaching its zenith from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. Today is the entrance to the Route of the White Villages and Historic-Artistic. Along with its breathtaking scenery, make prime tourist destination in the province of Cadiz, which is their main source of income.

It presents its breathtaking sights, beautiful landscapes, greenery. If you are in Arcos de la Frontera I advise you to visit the famous rue de Arcos, an impressive church of Santa María de la Asunción, instead of Cabildo. I invite you to explore this beautiful city.

Arcos-l'antiteatro on the rock

Arcos de la Frontera, a non-touristy little town is built on a natural amphitheater of a rocky outpost natural guadalete above the river. Traditionally it is the capuologo the Sierra de Cadiz and the country where the ruta de los begins pueblos blancos, the picturesque Andalusian villages in these mountains. The historic center where you must get lost, wandering, offers picturesque views of houses and sguarci views of the valley. Unbeatable!

Insuperabile!!

Arcos de la frontera

Arcos de la Frontera, a city of unique beauty, known internationally through the media, print and broadcast, the western gate of the White Villages Route, is one of the most prominent site in height, occupying the summit and side of a rock located on the right bank of the river Guadalete. At the top of the rock stands the famous castle, which was a Muslim palace renovated by the Dukes of Arcos, who used it as a watchtower against the Nazari kingdom of Granada.
