Balius, Villa Comunale

1 review of Balius, Villa Comunale

Bajulo Residence

This historic building, at the entrance of Balio Gardens, was built in the late nineteenth century by Count Agostino Pepoli surrounding the Norman fortress. It's the Municipal House, the "Bajulo" residence (the representative of the local authority appointed by the king) and the seat of the administration of criminal justice and tax collection. The 2 storey building is topped by a stone turret and though it doesn't call too much attention it has a curious history. It's worth climbing the stairs to go into the gardens, at the end of which is the castle and an excellent viewpoint.
