Spectacular fortress

It is a spectacular fortress, or temple as it´s called now, built with huge carved rocks laid together with absolute precision. Along with Machu Picchu and Choquequirao, it is undoubtedly one of the greatest architectural works of Tawantinsuyu. Its Quechua name means "satisfied falcon". It was erected on a high hill that overlooks the entire city and this falcon was believed to stand guard over the empire. Cusco was designed in the shape of a puma with Sacsayhuaman as the head and Koricancha corresponding to the feline's genitalia. We hired a local guide who was very friendly and knowledgable about this amazing work of art. After we spent a few hours hours here it starting raining -- January is rainy season so we had to wear our rain ponchos almost every day!

The fortress of Sacsayhuaman is one of the most important Inca constructions and is even more amazing for its grandeur and perfection, only riveled by Machu Picchu. Fo more information, go to Http :/ / blog-mochilero.Blogspot.Com/2010/11/turismo-cusco-sacsayhuaman.Html

Last ruin, two kilometers from cusco,...

Last ruin, two kilometers from Cusco, but probably the most important and mysterious. Built on the initiative of the Inca Pachacutec, this fortress was the scene of one of the last battles of the conquest of Peru by the Spaniards who encountered the Incas. Today, Sacsayhuaman is the location of the Inti Raymi, every June 24, where the sun god, Inti is celebrated. So much for the (short) history ... Otherwise, the discovery of the place was fantastic. Mysterious, nobody has managed to find the way Incas transported these enormous stones weighing on average between one and five tons each! While the secrets of Egyptian pyramids was pierced, the Inca remains found. Incredible! Even more incredible, but it can also be seen on the few remaining Inca walls in Cusco, how the wall is built. There is no "glue" between the stones which are superimposed, wardrobes, one above the other. And it is, without leaving any empty space! Sacsayhuaman, it also enjoys a unique view of all Cusco, which provides a protective aspect Sacsayhuaman ... just like the Cristo Blanco overlooking the city as the Christ of Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro ...

Skill in stone

A 2 Kms north of Cuzco, highlights this archaeological site. It is supposed to be built in the time of the Inca Pachacutec in the fifteenth century, and was completed during the reign of the Inca Huayna Capac in s. XVI. Surprising mastery of cutting and assembly of huge stone blocks, whose technique is unknown, and that has led to various theories, each more esoteric. In any case, the best description comes from the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, who called it "ceremonial fortress", and assume that today only seen 20% of its original size. From this location you can see a panorama of the city of Cuzco as a whole. It is advisable to take a trip to some of the guidelines offered in the Plaza de Armas, and Sacsayhuaman including Q'nqo complexes, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay and more remote the Pisac and Ollantaytambo (reason other corners ). Note: you can do in a day, but going very, very early and back to dark.

Incas details

This is almost like a game today, meeting this work is already very impressive, but found a rock that fit perfectly formed foot puma is inexplicable. Those are the details that the Inca people gave to each of his works, he represents the supreme being puma earth, the wisdom, strength, intelligence, government. The perfection with which managed to fit the stones is surprise. Not to mention the as they could move. It is a marvel of engineering. Surely the biggest attraction on the outskirts of Inca Cusco.

Detalles incas

Archaeological site more easily acces...

Archaeological site more easily accessible from Cuzco, it is also one of the most impressive in its dimensions so gigantic stage dominated by stone terraces on the hillside, it is several hundred meters long and can roam long between the stone walls ... but is quickly out of breath because of the altitude! Every year in June, it is here that the holiday place Cuzco where Peruvian Inca celebrate their heritage in a great show. You will need the "boleto turistico" to access this site (sold locally for about 40 euros, gives you access to a dozen websites for 10 days).

Others like saqsaywaman

The ruins of Sacsayhuaman were the most liked on the tour of the ruins of the city tour of Cusco. The city tour is a half day, but if you can go on a full day tour, because I thought long gone half the day to see such beautiful places. These ruins were a place of worship, house of the Sun, in the sacred times of the Incas and even today celebrate the Festival of the Sun on the solstice / equinox June 24. It was the place that hosted the last battle of the Incas! It is an exciting place! I can not explain, I wanted it all gone, taken more pictures, but the rush of the group not allowed!

Those

They are the most magnificent Inca ruins near Cusco and over and reveals a bit of the extraordinary Inca architecture. This place was built in approximately 77 years (1431-1508) in the reigns of Inca Yupanqui and Waya Qhapaq. It was destroyed from 1537 until 1561, and its stones used to build the Cathedral, churches and homes of Spaniards. Huge blocks of limestone and other types of stone were brought from a distance of up to 32 km. Most of the complex stone weighs about 70 tons. This place is held every June 24 the festival of Inti Raymi.

Sacsayhuaman fortress were located 2km from Cuzco on a hill. It allowed the Incas to defend itself against any attack, a huge stone wall unique in Peru. These monolithic blocks are fully assembled and built on each other, one wonders how this civilization at the time who does not know the wheel has to carry such heavy masses for the largest 350 tons!

The ninth inca had it built.

I was impressed by the strength, only about 3 km from the center of Cuzco. Sacsayhuaman ruins of a fortress that means (satisfied falcon) dates from XV and XVI. The started "Pachacutec" the first Inca Empire and ended the Inca "Huayna Capac" pruning seems to have been a ceremonial center, more than a fortress itself! The Real Casa del Sol, the location of Cuzco is a feline, in representing the head of the puma estn the ruins of Sacsayhuaman. Curious way, the Tullumayo ro and channeled underground, was the backbone of the puma the historical center of the city, was the body of the puma and head and we located! All years by the summer solstice on June 24 ceremony "Inti Raymi" the same ritual of worship the sun god Inti, the son of Viracocha, creator of the universe is held. Where both nobles and commoners were praying showing their respect. Das prior fasting, where the eve of "tie the sun" Virgins of the Sun, preparing cakes of corn for the Inca and his family until the day of Inti Raymi at dawn, the nobles of royal blood gather in the square crying or Huacaypata, waiting for the solar star. It was time to drink chicha, the Incan ritual fermented corn drink the cup of gold. Nobles and priests meet with the Inca, bursting into wails, groans, expressing sumisin to Astro Rey - Inti. Curvilneos rows of walls, megalticas walls of massive stone blocks between 9 m wide by 4 bottom of a quarry about three Km Sisicancha. A colossal wall of three hundred meters long zigzag three platforms, which 70 years are slow in making the walls 60 form which each have 25 angles that fit to perfection. The different levels were connected together by huge stairs, doors leading to terraces with three towers where the "Inca throne" stood a large rock carved stone. From watching the procession and games of the four "Suyus" in which the three worlds are represented: the snake to the (world below) puma for (life on earth) and the condor (upper world, of the gods ). The Sapa Inca and his wife Mama Occla, witness it blessed the new year while flowing music on instruments caa, conches! After enjoying the enclave, we decided to walk down to the city of Cuzco through narrow streets, between the houses of the locals, with a view highly recommended.

Once you get over the altitude sickne...

Once you get over the altitude sickness occurs height Cuzco, the first thing you do is go to Sacsayhuaman. The adventure, though tiny, is a delight, climb down the street Sweden to the top of Cuzco and from there walk 2 miles down the mountain to the archaeological site. Sacsayhuaman is impressive, but I think it is in the memory of all those who have traveled to Cuzco because it is the first meeting with the Inca culture. The Citadel is the fifteenth century, and its buildings are shaped like the head of a puma, a sacred animal for the Incas. What catches the attention of Sacsayhuaman are the stones with which it was lifted. They are gigantic, incredibly polished and fit against each other without leaving any loophole. Try it: Try entering the edge of your knife in the thin space. You will not enter. Like all Inca archeological sites, Sacsayhuaman is full of magic. It is known that in addition to strength, the place was an important ceremonial center, and some of the Incan mysticism seems still floating in the air.
