The covered bridge

The Covered Bridge was rebuilt in the middles of the 300's replacing the old Roman bridge it connects the old part of the city with the picturesque medieval village of Ticino, a traditional village of laundresses, gravel diggers, fishermen. What makes it more distinctive is its roof which covers it, and the presence of a chapel dedicated to San Giovanni Nepomuceno. Bombed in World War II, the bridge was rebuilt in the early 1950's

The covered bridge (bridge coperto) è...

The Covered Bridge (Bridge Coperto) è Pavia one of the city's tourist attractions. Built on the Ticino river, separates the historic part of the city where the quaint neighborhood of Borgo Ticino. Despite the current bridge was built in 1949, the project sought to reproduce the lines of the old existing bridge, built between 1351 and 1354 on the ruins of a Roman bridge. During World War II the old bridge was partially destroyed. Fearing the risk of collapse in 1948 was chosen for the demolition of what remained of the old bridge. In 1949 began the construction of the current. The new bridge was built 30 meters from the original location, was wider and shorter due to be perpendicular to the river, unlike the medieval bridge: The fascination and importance however, remain intact.

The bridge of access to the center

The Covered Bridge is one of the bridges over the river Ticino in the city of Pavia. The original bridge from the middle of 1300 (there are also the remains of a bridge built in this part of the river in Roman times) is not, unfortunately, nothing that today is in fact a reconstruction made in the 50s, as a result of the serious damage suffered by the monument during the Second World War. After this the bridge was completely destroyed and rebuilt from scratch. If and when the building had to have a certain strategic value because of the two towers placed access to inputs, today is simply the connection between the city center ([then = 91361] New Road [/ then]) and characteristic Borgo Ticino, as well as a good place to enjoy the beautiful views of the river, the old town and features the village houses on the opposite bank.

Backlit on deck

One afternoon in the city with my camera, while I enjoy the last rays of the sun this autumn scene catches my eye and I decide to stop the moment :)
