Its worth a visit

Situated in the heart of the city of Valencia, The cathedral of Valencia is worth a visit, known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria; its bell tower is a highlight, nicknamed the ‘Miguelete’ in Spanish or in Valencian ‘Micalet’.

The current cathedral was founded on the ruins of the first cathedral in Valencia dating back to the sixth century Roman-Visigoth. Although now you can mainly only see the Gothic influence, it also appreciates the Baroque and Renaissance styles’.

The interior features a painting by Goya in the Borja chapel, and it’s also worth a visiting the Cathedral Museum.

Original

Built on a Roman temple and later a mosque it dates back to the thirteenth century. The cathedral does not belong to a unitary or dominant style; it has styles ranging from the Romanesque to the Baroque, as witnessed by each of its three doors: the Principle door also known as Iron (Baroque), the Apostle door (Gothic) and the Palace door (Romanesque). It is not a typical cathedral; there are distinct elements that make it different for example the entrance is at an obtuse angle.

In the very centre

The Valencia cathedral, known popularly as "Seu", is a large Gothic building that stands above all for its overdone facade and high bell tower, called the ‘Miguelete’ that can be climbed, albeit in a very short time period (11:30 to 13:00). The cathedral is much prettier outside, with several highly ornamented doors, than on the inside with a style much more simple and restrained.

On the plaza de la virgen is the entr...

On the Plaza de la Virgen is the entrance to this church, also called St Mary's Cathedral, which keeps inside the Holy Grail, and the XV century gothic style, by the call of the Apostles door that leads to the Inside this magnificent Cathedral. It has four-pointed arches are joined forming a triple molding, with fifty reliefs formed by figures of angels, virgins and numerous other saints. At the ends of the moldings are the figures of the Apostles, hence its name. This was the entrance to the old mosque and currently is for the entry of the new Officers of Valencia. In the tympanum appears Image of the Virgin and Child surrounded by Angels with their musical instruments. The top molding is a very dilapidated figures are difficult to identify. The rose even older and the still visible remains of ancient glasses is so finely worked that seems transparent, letting light into the interior. The galleries that follow to the left and always on the square formed by overlapping arches are sustained, the first by Doric columns and two Ionic style columns. From there you can see all the events and festivals that take place in the square and around the Fountain of Turia. Highlighted in the superb Miguelete place.

In the heart of the city.

And although it is one of the most surprising Spanish cathedrals in size, the Valencia Cathedral is well worth a visit. Located in the historical center, what is striking is the bell tower of 51 meters high and 207 steps, known to all as Miguelete. Board it, find the main entrance of the cathedral, built in the eighteenth century by a German architect in Baroque style. Once inside, in the Chapel, we visit the early Renaissance paintings preserved in Spain, which were accidentally discovered during the restoration of the cathedral in 2004. Nor can we forget the Chapel of the Holy Chalice and original paintings by Goya in the Chapel of San Francisco de Borja.

The cathedral of saint mary of valenc...

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of Valencia is one of the most important churches in Spain, especially because it is said that inside is kept the Holy Grail. E 'for the most part in the Gothic style, and has more than one door: The door dell'Almoina, the Door of the irons and the Door of the Apostles, all three are very beautiful and characteristic. Outside the Cathedral, but architecturally united, there is the [then = 48401] Micalet [/ then], a large octagonal bell tower in Gothic style, 51 meters high, from the top you can see the center of Valencia and the square below.

The st. mary's cathedral is located o...

The St. Mary's Cathedral is located on the famous Plaza de la Reina - instead of the French queen -. This is one of the most visited and most famous of the old city of Valencia monuments. This cathedral is a mixture of architectural styles. Indeed, parts of St Mary's Cathedral is Gothic, while others are Roman-style or Baroque. This mixture gives a unique and remarkable building. Inside the cathedral, you can see the so-called Holy Grail but also paintings by Goya, you can also climb the 207 steps (yes, I counted!) Of Miguelete tower and admire the entire height city. The entrance to the basilica is paid. It should also add a surcharge for access Miguelete tower.

Serenity and harmony ...

If I had to describe the city of Valencia, would those two words, serenity and harmony, because the entire atmosphere is wonderful street ... Students, people calm, happy, bicycles, concerts, painters displaying their works ... Anyway, I found much to Granada, in the environment with people, and I loved it .. From the cathedral to say, she's wonderful, beautiful, but very special little one.

Serenidad y armonia...

St. Mary's Cathedral of Valencia is a religious building built in the 13th century in a predominantly Gothic (Mostly because the construction took place over several centuries.) It is in this cathedral what kept the Holy Grail since 1437 (The cup used by Jesus and his disciples at the Last Supper). It is a gigantic and majestic monument and obviously must if you are visiting the city.
