Antigo Paço do Bispo - Old Episcopal Palace

1 review of Antigo Paço do Bispo - Old Episcopal Palace

The former Bishop's Palace

The former Bishop's Palace is in Largo de Camoes, just opposite the old Seminary and Cathedral. It's considered one of the most splendid emblazoned palaces in the city. It's 2-storey and the main facade is divided by pilasters into 3 granite bodies, highlights are the granite window recercados and the 2 long balconies on the top floor with granite railings. The gateway bears the shield of Bishop Manuel de Vasconcelos. Since 1910 it has housed the City Museum (with an interesting collection of elements that have been declared Treasures of Portugal) so the seat of the Bishop moved to Almacave House.
