Bruce of Auchenbowie´s House

Within the city of Stirling, surrounding the hill with its famous climb to the castle on top, there is a series of residential buildings that show us what the city was like from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. It includes Bruce Auchenbowie House, home to one of the most influential and powerful families in the city back in the sixteenth century. Auchenbowie is one of the most rural areas of Stirling today, and was once owned entirely by the family. But in 1555 Robert Bruce (not to be confused with the Scottish king who died 200 years before) was declared mayor (which in Scotland is Provost) and built the new center of local power: the castle.
