Plasencia Jewish Cemetery

Although Jews played an important role in the economy of the city, they were always marginalized thus preventing them from burying their dead along with the rest, and forcing them to build their cemeteries outside the city walls. In addition, not all cities had cemeteries, so they had to move long distances in order to reach them. In Plasencia much of one of the Jewish cemeteries has been recovered, which could well be the only one in all the ancient region in which it was discovered. The City Council has taken the trouble to set up the area and put up informational signs, although the access is less well signposted.
