Chambre D'Amour

La Chambre d'Amour is named after the cave. The short story is of two lovers who, faced with opposition from the girl's father, stayed in the cave until one day they were swept away by the force of the sea which rose faster that day than normal. La Chambre d'Amour is a truly ideal place for walking. There are numerous restaurants, bars, terraces and surf schools. It's a nice place during the day to enjoy the sun and on summer nights when it becomes a "musical beach" with animation or music groups performing. We went there to see a band from the Basque Country, a sort of brass band and a reggae group.

This is a legend which tells the story of a young boy named Laorens. He is a poor orphan and his girlfriend, Saubade is the daughter of a rich farmer. They loved each other dearly, and decided to swear undying love despite their parents being opposed to the idea. This cave was their love nest. It is facing the waves of the Atlantic and hidden away from prying eyes. But one day, a huge storm caused the waters to rise faster than expected, flooding the cave and the two lovers perished in it. Since then it has been called the "Room of Love". Today, it is one of the most visited places in Anglet.
