Church of Santa María de la Peña

Sin duda un lugar de la mancha mágico. Estamos en Brihuega, un pueblo de la Alcarria alta de la provincia de Guadalajara. Os quiero mostrar una joya de la Edad Media construida a principios del siglo XIII por orden del arzobispo Jiménez de Rada, la iglesia de Santa María de la Peña. Brihuega conserva 3 construcciones románicas de la primera mitad del siglo XIII, en los años en los que el Obispo Don Rodrigo Ximenez de Rada hacia acto de presencia. Me refiero a las iglesias de San Felipe, Santa María de la Peña y San Miguel (3 rincones que estaré encantado de enseñaros). Santa María de la Peña es uno de los 4 templos cristianos con los que contó Brihuega. Es un perfecto ejemplo de arquitectura CISTERCIENSE en la etapa de transición del Románico al Gótico. Destaco ante todo el enclave: Silencioso, natural, empedrado y mágico. En su interior os comento que se conserva al imagen de la patrona de Brihuega, la Virgen de la Peña. Es una localidad que no os debéis de perder de la Alcarria alta. Estáis invitados.

Definitely a place of magical spot. We are in Brihuega, a village high Alcarria in the province of Guadalajara. I want to show a jewel of the Middle Ages built in the early thirteenth century by Archbishop Jiménez de Rada, the church of Santa Maria de la Peña. Cuando visitamos el exterior de la iglesia, porque estaba cerrada, hacía un calor impresionante. Pero pudimos apreciar la belleza de su portada, en la que se observa como han restaurado parte de los elementos de las columnas situadas a su derecha. Es un edificio del románico tardío y principios del gótico.

When we visited the outside of the church, because it was closed, the heat was impressive. But we appreciate the beauty of its cover, which is observed as have restored some of the elements of the columns to the right. Building is a late Romanesque and early Gothic.

La Iglesia de Santa María de la Peña fue construida a principios del S.XIII por orden del arzobispo Jiménez de Rada. Es un perfecto ejemplo de la arquitectura cisterciense de transición del románico al gótico y en su interior se conserva la imagen de la patrona de la localidad, la Virgen de la Peña.

The Church of St. Mary of the Rock was built in the early thirteenth century by order of the Archbishop Jiménez de Rada. It is a perfect example of Cistercian architecture transition from Romanesque to Gothic and the interior retains the image of the patron saint of the town, the Virgen de la Peña.

Un sitio precioso entre la arboleda, la fuente y la propia iglesia. Desde donde además se pueden tener unas bonitas vistas de los campos más cercanos.

A beautiful location among the trees, the fountain and the church itself. From there we can have a nice view of the nearby fields.
