Cliffs of Rusenski Lom

1 review of Cliffs of Rusenski Lom

Rusenski Lom River

Rusenski Lom River is the last major river that joins into the Danube before it turns into a delta and finishes into the Black Sea. Before that, in the last 100 miles, you have a very wild landscape with high cliffs. It is a place of great natural beauty. To get there, you have to go in the direction of Ivanovo and then come upon the churches that were carved into the rock of these cliffs. There is a road, above the caves of the churches, which passes through the plateaus above the cliffs and gives you a stunning view. You can see for miles and miles. The tour of the churches is done from below, but this view is worth the trip up the road.

Below you see the river and as it passes through the mountains it creates the cliffs. The Rusenski Lom continues then to the town of Rousse and joins the Danube. You are just above sea level, because you are so close to it. It's a shame but there is no camping in this beautiful place, which is a protected nature reserve, and whose's churches are part of the UNESCO world heritage.
