Jewish Quarter (Judería)

La judería de Córdoba es uno de los sitios que no podemos obviar en nuestra visita a Córdoba. Está situada en el entorno de la mezquita, en el casco histórico, concretamente en dirección noroeste. Sus estrechas calles y sus casas encaladas son una de las estampas más populares de la ciudad. Entre los siglos X y XV Córdoba fue ejemplo de convivencia entre religiones. Tres de las religiones más importantes de la época; la cristiana, la judía y la musulmana, coexistían pacíficamente. Casi todo el pueblo judío vivía bajo el gobierno del islam y fue entonces cuando se inició un largo período de simbiosis entre el pueblo judeoárabe. Durante el gobierno Omeya, las actividades culturales y comerciales de los musulmanes hicieron de Al Ándalus el país más culto de Europa. Córdoba que se convirtió en la capital del Califato Omeya, atrajo el mecenazgo sobre poetas y filósofos, hombres de letras y de ciencias. Entre ellos Maimonides, un pensador judío del S.XII. Durante el siglo X Córdoba fue el mayor centro económico y cultural de Occidente. Pues bien el legado que hoy nos queda es el entramado de sus calles irregulares y sus plazoletas repletas de flores. En el centro de la judería se encuentra a demás la sinagoga, el templo más importante de está comunidad, un edificio semioculto cuyo edificio no está expuesto al exterior. Cerca de la sinagoga está la mítica calle de las flores, desde la cual podemos ver la torre de la mezquita. Está calle como su propio nombre indica está repleta de tiestos con geranios, haciéndola muy popular para los turistas. Verdaderamente es una gozada pasear un día de buen tiempo por el barrio, especialmente en primavera cuando los jardines y todas sus flores están en su máximo esplendor.

La primera vez que visité Córdoba, siendo adulta :-), fue por un viaje de trabajo... Tuve un par de horas libres y decidí dar un paseo por la Judería y visitar la Mezquita. El paseo fue increíblemente bello... Quizá porque casi no había gente, por la temperatura ideal, las paredes encaladas y que casi rozaban la perfección del blanco, las esquinas redondeadas de las casas... Alguien me envió un sms preguntándome qué tal por allí, y no pude evitar contestar "no me importaría morir en estas calles"... Uf! Creo que es la primera y única vez que he pensado algo así, tan inmediato y natural!. Supongo que era la manera de hablar de la paz que me embargaba en ése momento, de la blancura que inundaba mi retina en aquellas calles, de la quietud, no lo sé. Por supuesto, he vuelto en otras ocasiones (y cámara en mano, por cierto, ya que en aquella ocasión no llevaba)... No ha vuelto a ser lo mismo, aunque Córdoba es preciosa y un rincón que merece muchísimo la pena ir a ver, y si es posible en primavera, y en días laborales, cuando hay menos turistas, mayor quietud. Nunca dejo de entrar en la Mezquita, cada vez que voy me gusta entrar, verla, estar en su patio de naranjos a la sombra, tomando un respiro.

La judería de Córdoba es una de las más antiguas de España. Paseando por ella, de noche, uno puede oír el propio eco de sus zapatos sobre las piedras. Casi puede sentirse uno en el pasado. La judería esta compuesta por pequeñas callejuelas y rodeada de tiendas restaurantes y bares. Supone un barrio único, que es de obligada visita si pasas por Córdoba. Ojo a los bares de la caza del guiri.
