Cortijo del Fraile

Visit the Cortijo del Fraile when you go to Cabo de Gata. Besides the beauty of the place, it was the scene of a crime of passion in the early twentieth century. The "Crime of Nijar" inspired Federico García Lorca to write his play "Blood Wedding". The cottage where it all happened is located in a valley surrounded by mountains. It is currently in ruins and abandoned. Due to the pressure of several intellectuals in Almeria, the cottage has been declared a cultural site.
