Centre of European thought

This former Augustinian Monastery and student dorm is one of the most special places in Tubingen. I really was excited to see the place where great thinkers studied like Hegel, Kepler and the romantic poet Hölderlin, Johannes Staupitz, spiritual mentor of Martin Luther, worked here 1497-1498. Entry to the building is free and once inside you can enjoy the quiet cloister full of flowers, but especially history, philosophy, mathematics and poetry. From 1262 the Augustinian Hermits were installed along the river Neckar in this large building with four wings. In the fifteenth century the great restorations begin with the arrival of the Reformation in Württemberg but in 1534-1535 the monastery was dismantled.
