At the end of Broad Street

Hertford College along with 30 other schools makes up the University of Oxford. It's at the end of Broad Street, in the historic city center, just opposite the famous Bodleian Library. The school was founded in 1282 and had the name Hart Hall until 1740, when it became Hertford College. In Oxford the schools are smaller than classical universities, in Hertford out 250 people graduate each year. The medieval buildings housed students and teachers but with growth most of them now live outside. Founded as a boys' school to now has an almost equal gender ratio. It has one of the largest libraries in the city, with very rare books from the seventeenth century, donated and purchased by the university.
