One of the first in Kathmandu
The Himalayas guesthouse was one of the first to open in Kathmandu in the late 70's; many great travelers have stayed in its spartan rooms, including some of the original American and British hippies. It stands in a side street off Freak Street, where little or nothing has changed in over thirty years. The guesthouse itself is more or less the same. The owner opened another (the Himalayas II) a few years ago on Basantapur Square, with a panoramic roof top restaurant.
