9 reviews of Historic Centre of Santa Ana de Los Ríos de Cuenca

UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Ecuadorian city of Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca is also known as Cuenca. It is located in the south of Quito in the Andes and was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage of Humanity sites in 1999. It illustrates the renaissance in Latin America and its colonial cities. It was built on a plateau, surrounded by the mountains of the Andes and to the south, by Ecuador. It is the third largest city in the country, after Guayaquil and Quito, the capital. It was founded in 1557, after the rigorous planning was required by King Carlos V, 30 years earlier.
