Igreja da Misericórdia - Church of Mercy

The Mercy Church is a small church in the Republic Square. It is located next to the headquarters of the brackets. The temple was built in the year 1521 by D. Manuel. Later it was destructed and the rebuilt in the seventeenth century by architect Jeronimo de Azevedo Velho. The building has a rectangular longitudinal irregular shape. The two volumes are spatially juxtaposed to the ship, with deck flooring tiles and wooden interior. The main chapel is framed by a triumphal arch of stone, flanked by two carved and gilded nineteenth century alterpieces. What is now Mercy House was once an old hospital,
