Jardin d'Été

Le jardin d'été, qui borde le boulevard des Lices, est un parc très agréable. De l'autre côté du boulevard, il longe le théâtre antique de la ville romaine. Ombrages propices et allées séduisantes. Un monument à Van Gogh rend hommage au grand peintre qui avait élu domicile en Arles. Il est dû au sculpteur américain William Earl Singer qui en fit don à la ville en 1969. On trouve, un peu au-dessus, une statue en marbre, pas très gaie : il s'agit de Niobé, la fille de Tantale, désespérée devant le massacre de ses enfants. Elle fut sculptée par Hippolyte Lefebvre en 1897. Egalement un mémorial est érigé en ce parc, mentionnant le génocide arménien du début du 20ème siècle.
