Half-day hike

The half-day hike to Cavell Meadows is popular, especially with Japanese hikers. It is perhaps the bonsai Englemann spruce which attracts them. Or views of the imposing, rugged north face of Mount Edith Cavell with the Angel glacier spilling down a 300m cliff. The north face was first climbed by Chouinard and Beckey in 1961. Chouinard is the founder of Patagonia clothing and the inventor of the modern climbing equipment now sold by the Black Diamond company.

The walk from the car park to the Pond beneath the Ghost and Angel glaciers is short. From the Pond the path climbs up beside lateral moraine to the meadows where the path splits to form a circular route.
