Municipal Museum of Esposende (Theatre Club Building)

1 review of Municipal Museum of Esposende (Theatre Club Building)

Learn about the history of Esposende

The Municipal Museum of Esposende is opposite the Church of the Misericordia, in the heart of the city. It's in the old building of the Theater Club Esposende that is considered a fine example of early twentieth century architecture, designed by architect Ventura Terra. It uses materials such as stone, tile, glass, wood and wrought iron. Ferrao Bernardo was responsible for its rehabilitation to transform the current municipal museum, inaugurated in 1993. It's a narrow building so exhibits are in 3 rooms, one on each floor. Downstairs is the "Living Tiles", which preserves primitive tiles of 1908 and is dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
