    Fresh fish dishes

    Monterrico ranches and Puerto Iztapa are huts with thatched roofs, built on the beach of the Pacific coast of Guatemala. They serve very fresh food, mainly fish. The specialty is ceviche, a raw fish (normally snapper), marinated in lemon and what we call inglesia sauce with chopped onions and tomatoes. It comes served with crackers. It is delicious. You can also ask for flounder, snapper, whole fish or fillet. Be careful, the shrimp is usually from the mangrove behind, not from the sea. The ranch also is a small hotel, which is around 50 Quetzales per room, where up to three people can sleep. It is very cheap to spend a few days on the beach.

    The rooms are simple huts with a wooden door, walls and thatched roofs. They are generally quiet places and you don't have to worry about your stuff, but it's always better to leave money in a safe place.

    Les « ranchos » de Monterrico et de Puerto Iztapa sont des petites maisons au toit de paille, construite sur la place de la cote pacifique de Guatemala. Ils servent de la nourriture très fraiche a base de poisson, la spécialité est le ceviche, qui est un poisson cru, en général pêché le matin, mariné dans du citron et de la sauce anglaise avec de la tomate et de l’oignon émincés, et que l’on sert avec des crackers. C’est délicieux. Ensuite on peut demander de la sole, du pargo, poisson entier ou filets grillés. Attention, en général les crevettes ne viennent pas de la mer mais des élevages en piscines de la mangrove de derrière. Ensuite le rancho est également un petit hôtel, où en général une chambre coute autour de 50 Quetzales, et on peut coucher jusqu’a trois personnes. C’est vraiment peu cher pour passer quelques jours sur la plage. Les chambres sont de simples cahuttes avec une porte en bois, des murs et un toit de paille. En général ce sont des endroits tranquilles et pas besoin de se préoccuper pour ses affaires, même si c’est toujours mieux d’être prudent.
