Un relámpago que ilumina la noche y que no lleva trueno
El lago Maracaibo cuenta con una de las maravillas de la naturaleza más raras: se trata de un relámpago que no va acompañado de un trueno, sólo luz, sin sonido. No está muy claro cuál es la razón por la que sucede esto, desde la concentración de gas y petróleo bajo el agua del lago a cualquier otra causa.... Pero se trata de una maravilla que ilumina el cielo unas 200 noches al año. La zona tiene en su poder el Record Guinness de mayor promedio mundial de relámpagos por kilómetros cuadrados al año.
Son 200 noches de relámpagos al año. Nosotros esperamos casi una semana en Mérida para poder hacer la excursión y finalmente, el día que fuimos hasta el lago fue uno de esos 165 restantes sin relámpagos. En realidad sí que hubo, pero de una tormenta, con sus truenos... Eso sí, disfrutamos del paseo en barca por el río Catatumbo y un precioso amanecer desde los palafitos del lago.
Lake Maracaibo has one of the wonders of the rarest nature: it is lightning that is not accompanied by thunder, only light, no sound. Of course, we enjoyed the boat ride on the Catatumbo river and a beautiful sunrise from the stilt houses of the lake.
