Sainte Croix Church

4 reviews of Sainte Croix Church

Quite classical

The church of Sainte Croix belonged a former Benedictine monastery. The Benedictines settled in the neighborhood when it was still a field outside the city as they were looking for a simple and humble life and behind the church was their monastery, with common parts, and a building which has now been renovated to become the school of Fine Arts in Bordeaux. It's been a historical monument since 1840, the Abbey was founded in the sixth century and this church was begun in the eleventh century. The church has a Latin cross and is quite classical, with a 40 meter long nave that is 15 meters tall. You can see beautiful works of art by the painters Cureau, and Bourgneuf.
