Santa Cristina Hermitage

4 reviews of Santa Cristina Hermitage

Built to guard relics

The present church dates from the late eighteenth century, but there are reports of its existence prior to 1376. Funds for its construction were donated by all the villagers, and if their meager resources didn't allow them to donate money, they helped to build it. We couldn't go inside, so we didn't get the chance to see the numerous votive offerings that exist in the sacristy, and the interesting altarpiece depicting the death of Santa Cristina.
