St. Peter\'s Church

Non è certo uno dei motivi per visitare Corniglia, ma la bella chiesa di San Pietro, risalente al XIV secolo (l'edificio attuale è del 1334) merita sicuramente un'occhiata. Arrivando a piedi da Vernazza la trovate sulla sinistra, nella parte alta del borgo. La semplice facciata della chiesa gotico-ligure è stata costruita in pietra, nella quale domina un grande rosone in marmo di Carrara (datato 1351). Dentro non ci sono grandissimi punti d'interesse se non forse un fonte battesimale del XII secolo e le due vetrate alle spalle dell'altare. Non è l'unica chiesa del piccolo paese, nella piazza principale c'è l'Oratorio dei Disciplinati.

It is certainly one of the reasons to visit Corniglia, but the beautiful church of St. Peter, dating from the fourteenth century (the present building in 1334) is definitely worth a look. Arriving on foot from Vernazza find it on the left, in the upper part of the village. The simple facade of the Ligurian Gothic church was built of stone, which is dominated by a large rose window in Carrara marble (dated 1351). Inside there are great points of interest except perhaps a baptismal font of the twelfth century and the two windows behind the altar. It is the only church in the small town, in the main square there is the Oratory of the Disciplined.

Plus grande et plus à l'écart que la petite église de la place centrale, la basilique San Pietro de Corniglia est ouverte tous les jours à la visite et, comme ses petites soeurs dans les autres de village, est impressionnante pour sa sublime rosace en façade. On pourra apprécier le travail des peintures à l'intérieur, typiques de la renaissance - époque où elle a été rénovée - dans les tons pastels.

Bigger and away the little church of the central square, the Basilica of San Pietro Corniglia is open daily to visitors and as his little sisters in the other village, is impressive for its sublime rosette façade. One can appreciate the work of the paintings inside, typical of the Renaissance - when it was renovated - in pastel colors.
