Should be on your Ouarzazate List

Excellent

While decidedly not as grandiose and exotic as some other Kasbahs in the region, the Taourirt Kasbah has it's own merit and is definitely worth a visit if you're in Ouarzazate. It's be completely restored and is in (what I can imagine) similar shape as it was in its heyday hundreds of years ago.

It's right at the edge of town and easily reached in a "petiti taxi"...the entrance costs 10 Dirham (around one dollar) and you'll of course be offered plenty of "guided tours," which I'd suggest turning down with a smile and a polite "la shokran" ("no thanks" in Moroccan Arabic). The building itself is like a maze. Each floor is filled with tiny corridors and passageways and multiple staircases, and the fact that many of the rooms are empty or unadorned might lead you to breeze on through. Big mistake. Right when you think there's nothing special, just more empty rooms, you stumble on an amazing chamber with Arabic engravings, gorgeous original tilework, and impressive views of the surrounding Kasbah.

The best rooms, though, are towards the top, and typically farther away from the staircase. If you go during the off season, it's an amazing sensation to be crawling around an ancient adobe palace all by yourself. Really cool place!

one of the best preserved and most beautiful places in the area

Located on the outskirts of Ouarzazate, this is one of the best preserved and most beautiful places in the area. Formally a residence of the Pasha of Marrakech, is is made of adobe with crenelated towers. We visited the old quarters of the Glaoui, the dining room and best bed room, which still retains its stucco decoration and painted cedar wood ceilings (the entrance is 10 dirhams).

Not far from the center of Ouarzazate...

Not far from the center of Ouarzazate is the most important attraction of the city, the Kasbah of Taourirt, one of the best preserved of all Morocco. The kasbah is divided into two parts: A, with free access, is actually a village where the mud houses are still living people. The second one, which is accessible after paying an entrance fee, including most restored the old building, perfectly preserved. The advice is to start with a visit to the inhabited part, and so it is better to rely on some kids do not get lost in the maze of narrow streets and visit the inhabited part without feeling intruders. The ride is very impressive, it is along the ancient walls and towers of clay and admire scenes of everyday life, with women washing clothes outdoors, the houses that still seem a century ago, without light or water current. A tip of 3 euro and the kid will be more than satisfied. Then entering in the restored part, one is struck by the beauty of the buildings intact clay, with crenellated towers, contrasting with the clarity of the sky. Even the interior of this kasbah seems a narrow maze full of rooms, corridors and stairways.

Facing the museum cinema

Face au musée du cinéma

Excellent
This is "The Monument of Ouarzazate." This Kasbah is located in the historic center of the old Ouarzazate, because the modern city is widely spread (space in this desert area is not lacking). Wide avenues for miles that make me think of a city "American." Kasbah so called "Kasbah Taourit" or "Kasbah Glaoui," is now a museum open to visitors for its architecture, skylights and rooms with beautiful walls and magnificent painted ceilings, but the whole is empty of furniture. Well restored, at least a large part, it looks great on the Grand worthy of a presidential palace.

In the valley of the Draa

Despite Ourzazate is famous for the film museum and have been repeatedly in the past a film set, do not forget that its kasbah, called Taourit, is one of the largest cities in the region. The center is nicely renovated and very tidy, not coincidentally the name of the city in Bereber dialect means "without noise" or "without confusion".

A leap in time

Un saut dans le temps

Excellent
World Heritage of Unesco monument, Kasbah Taourirt was owned by the Pasha of Marrakech from the Glaoui tribe. In the castle there is no furniture or paintings. Only the walls, mosaics and remains of scultpés wood are still present. The Kasbah is actually a castle made of mud and straw, which is eroding with the wind and the rain. From its windows you can see the Medina which is still inhabited and can be visited as well. Jump out of time for sure.

A magical place

The interior is cooler and simply decorated. Of these rooms, we discover the many film studios in Ouarzazate that pushed past few years.

Kasbah Taourirt

One of my favorite parts of my route through southern Morocco. The site is wonderful to wander through the old streets. But my great memory comes from the experience. By pouring out and meet the locals. A tremendous site
