The Mexuar - Oratory

1 review of The Mexuar - Oratory

The administrative city

Excellent

The first place we get to in the Alhambra already lets us imagine we are in front of one of the most beautiful and unusual architectural complexes in the world.

The Mexuar is simple; it is almost dark and understated compared to the other palaces in the Alhambra. Sometimes I get the strange impression of being in a small church, but don’t be fooled, the Mexuar and its oratory were the places used by the monarch to give advice, impart justice, as a lovely glazed tile says "Come in and ask. Do not fear asking for justice because you must find it"...

In the Mexuar the administrative and public life of the independent city of the Alhambra was developed and already in this room the first signs of the incredible and unique Muslim art of the time: the "muqarnas" startles us. At that very moment, the audio guide tells that what we could see was a mixture of different periods, there is not much left from the old construction of the Mexuar, but I say, it doesn’t matter, it is beautiful anyway. The affiliation between different the eras can be seen for example in the excellent and remarkable wooden Christian roof.
