Qalhat n'est plus qu'un petit village où les gamins, coiffés de leur kumma, taquinent le ballon de foot. Au 13ème siècle, c'était pourtant un très grand port . Le célèbre navigateur Ibn Batuta en parle comme d'un grand centre de commerce de chevaux. Un tremblement de terre détruisit la ville au 14ème siècle. Seul resta le tombeau d'une sainte femme : Bibi Maryam. Auréolé de ce prestige qui l'épargna ("Les anges avaient protégé la demeure de Dieu"), le monument devint un lieu de pèlerinage. Les ruines, sur une falaise, se dressent fièrement face à la mer.
Qalhat is only a small village where the kids, wearing their Kumma, Tease football. In the 13th century, yet it was a great port.
