Houses the ashes of royalty

In the historic center of Sukhothai and within the city walls you will find the largest and the most important temple of Sukhothai. It is in the grounds of the Royal Palace, surrounded by lakes and covers a large area. Khmer influence is evident where you will find countless chedi, animal figures, and 8 m high buddhas. Like most major temples of Thailand it served to house the ashes of royalty from long ago. It is impressive to see that the columns are still standing and the vast amount of surrounding vegetation. Four red prang denote the 4 corners. Maps show the reconstruction that is underway and how it should look once finished.
