Restaurants in Fortaleza
Geppos Restaurante

This is one of the best dining options if you're in the city of Fortaleza. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the sea, located next to the Japanese gardens and with a large menu to choose from. The offer pizzas, steaks, pasta dishes and various desserts, as well as a wide selection of wines and beers. The pizza is a great option, with a huge number of toppings available. It has live music every day. Credit and debit cards are accepted.

Sorveteria 50 Sabores

There's nothing better than eating a delicious ice cream to kill the heat of the day while you enjoy the beaches of the northeast. This is one of my favourite spots to indulge in the city of Fortaleza; the menu offers more than 100 flavours! All the ice creams are handmade by the staff, and there are plenty of regional fruit flavours on offer. There are so many delicious options ... be sure to try the delicious, unusual tapioca flavour! You can enjoy the ice cream on the terrace with the wonderful view of Meireles Beach in the background.

Boi Preto Fortaleza

If you want a good cut of grilled meat while you're in this land of fish and seafood, then get yourself to Boi Petro Grill. This restaurant offers a beautiful view of Meireles Beach, in front of the craft fair on the maritime promenade. Here you'll find the best meat in Fortaleza. It's admittedly one of the most expensive restaurants around, but there's some fantastic food, and a varied buffet: salads, fish, shrimp, steak, sushi and hot dishes. The last time I was there, the "rodizio" cost R $ 60.00 per person (January 2012).

Casa Plaza Pães Especiais
(2)
Casa Plaza is a market and bakery where you can buy things and have a coffee. It's one of the best places to grab a coffee in Fortaleza, but leaves much to be desired when compared to bakeries in the south of the country, and other countries. The sweets are disappointing due to not much choice, but the savouries are great, as they have everything from cheese to tapioca bread.

Coco Bambu

I don't recommend going to Coco Bamboo unless you're wearing some very attention-grabbing clothing. It's impossible to catch the waiters' eye; I almost had to shout to get them to give me a table! They continued to ignore me, even after I'd asked a total of four waiters and a waitress to take my order ... service here is a total disaster, and I ended up asking to speak to the manager. All the dishes seemed quite tempting but, after waiting 18 minutes for a table and then another 25 for an order, I wasn't really in the mood. Okay, the salmon ceviche is good - in fact, so is most of the seafood. And the caipirinha, served in the husk of a coconut, is nothing sort of extraordinary. Conclusion? Good food, but the service is truly horrendous.

Cafe Gelatto Beira Mar
(1)
An optimal option for those who are shopping at the night market in Meireles Beach in Forlaleza is to take a break from shopping and sit in Cafe Gelatto to rest and eat something. Gelatto Cafe is on the Avenida Beia Mar, 2800, in the Hotel Praiano, almost opposite the market. It's a very small place, with a few chairs and sofas available, however, the atmosphere is quiet, and the refined, elegant decoration was inspired in Colombo Confitera (Rio de Janeiro). The service is excellent and the price is high, but worth it to enjoy the delights of the coffee menu. The menu offers a mix of traditional dishes (pastries, milk shakes, cappuccino, etc.) and some new features, such as tapioca ice cream, coffee with sweet milk, sorbet with tapioca Paçoa. The place also offers a wide range of special sorbets, and a scoop costs R $ 12. A young man named Cesar makes most of these creations, and he loves to explain the origin of the dishes.

Centro das Tapioqueiras
(3)
You can't visit Cear without trying some of the typical Brazilian products in the cafes. The regional produce has become so famous that a gastronomic complex has been built, the Centro das Tapioqueiras. It is located at the start of the EC-040, the road leading to the east coast beaches, and has beome a tourist attraction. The 26 stalls here serve more than 50 versions of this local delicacy, in the original version - round with butter and cheese or coconut milk - and different flavours: corned beef with melted cheese (my favourite), shrimp, chicken, cheese, chocolate, and so many more. You can also find drinks on offer: coffee, hot chocolate, cappuccino, fruit juices and soft drinks. It is worth taking a walk through here before heading on to the beaches.

Suvaco de Cobra

This place has a slightly retro decor, and is located in one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Fortaleza. It's a bit off the tourist circuit. The winery has been in operation since 1985, but the restaurant was only opened seven years ago. There are seven tables in the backyard, which are very popular. The menu has crepes, pasta, stuffed potatoes ... the tuna with capers is a delight! To drink, they offer a super-refreshing ice cream rum. Delicious!

Colher de Pau
(3)
The Colher de Pau Restaurant ("Wooden Spoon") is well known for its delicious Brazilian cuisine, and its great samba on Saturdays. Actually, the buzz begins with some music at 1pm, and continues all afternoon and evening. It's a lively, fun spot full of beautiful, single people, making it the perfect place to go to do some flirting. ;) Tip: if you want to guarantee a table, get there early. The beer is very good. Admission is charged once samba starts: women $10, men $15. Fica Dr. Mario Ferraz Street, 563 - Moema - São Paulo, SP - (11) 3168-8068

Chão de Estrelas

There's nothing better than combining live music with a conversation with friends ... but it's hard to do both at the same time. Here you can talk and listen to music, at the Cho Estrelas restaurant, near Washington Soares Avenue, which connects the capital with the east coast. This is a very busy area with many great restaurants. This spacious restaurant offers a wide variety of food - thin and crispy pizzas (try the one with the squid - it's exquisite!), international and regional dishes including sushi and sashimi. There's a children's playground, as well as entertainers who draw and paint to keep the kids happy, and an area with video games and toys. All this service for children only costs $ 9.90 and you can leave them as long as you want.

A great combination of bookshop and cafe, allowing you to spend an afternoon immersed in culture. It's a popular spot for friends, couples and families, with great staff. The Café is open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 22h, and 14h- 20h Sundays and holidays.

Restaurante Lô

L' Ó Restaurant is a recent creation from 2008. Perhaps the most sophisticated kitchen Fortaleza. Good, reputable and award-winning chef. A tad expensive. Turn the cream of the city.
