Barba Giorgis is a restaurant on the main road of Amoudara. Its a medium sized place that serves pretty good food and the couple who run it are very friendly with tourists. It has both covered and uncovered terraces and checkered tablecloth just like a traditional Greek taverna. Good place, worth a visit.
Taverna Trata is located in the small square near the Venetian harbor of Heraklion. Unsurprisingly, the views are great and it's a lovely place to just sit out and people watch. I had a very nice lunch with stuffed tomatoes (be careful...in Crete, if you choose "stuffed tomatoes" you end up with a single tomato and pepper with a simple rice filling). The service is efficient and friendly too.
Taverna Dionysos is a small, seductive taverna in the center of Amoudara. It's basically a traditional seaside tavern with white tablecloths and quality food at reasonable prices. Like so often in Crete, if you order a dish you get a free appetizer like tsatsiki or tapenade. I enjoyed the setting and decoration focusing on Greek gods.
If you go to Crete, you can't avoid hearing about the famous "kri-kri". This is a type of wild goat that lives in very few places. You can find them in the interior of the island. They have some really impressive horns, and it's nice to get the chance to take a picture of them. After all, Crete is famous for it's goat's cheese!
