Restaurants in Nairobi
The Carnivore Restaurant
(4)
The Carnivore Restaurant is a restaurant chain where the specialty is, as its name suggests, meat. There are all types of meat, and most of it is really good. Here, you pay a fixed price for the food, which is a buffet, and then waiters pass by every table serving food non stop until you can't eat anymore. This place might even be a little too touristy, but it's worth a visit. It is very on the edge, so it is advisable to take a taxi, agree on the price and return, usually you expect or stay an hour of collection.

Restaunrante Tamarind Dhow

In the summer of 2009 we went to Kenya and decided to go by train (a complete adventure) to Mombasa on the Kenyan coast. The company that ran the safari had recommended a rather peculiar restaurant, in a typical local boat, called Dhow which offered daily lunch and dinner, but we went for dinner (I think lunchtime is cheaper ), but it was worth it, the seafood was delicious and crew were all wonderful. There was also live music.

I Love Pizza

The name says it all: this is a restaurant dedicated to the art of pizza. We were a bit skeptical of I Love Pizza at first, but I have to say that the pizza was indeed very good. The staff are friendly and the fish dishes are good too. The only problem was finding the place! The prices are quite high, like all tourist-oriented places in Kenya.

Lo Spuntino

During the past month in Watamu we grew very fond of this little place. The prices are similar to what we're used to at home in Italy, and the homemade cakes are delicious. The cappuccino is almost as good as at home! You can enjoy yogurt, almond and lemon cakes, and fruit tarts. It's open from 6:30am until after 9pm, so you can have lunch or dinner, but we only ever came in the morning, so we can't tell you if you need a reservation or what the menus are like.

Mami Bar

This restaurant is run by an Italian guy and some Kenyans. The prices are similar to Italy, but if you rent an apartment, then you'll want to go out to eat every now and then. The menu offers mostly Italian dishes, and it's also possible to rent a scooter and motorcycles at honest prices - 500 shillings a day.

Rusty Nail

At the Rusty Nail, a restaurant in Karen, there is an organic market on Saturday mornings (9-3pm) with local produce, and after shopping for the week, you can eat in the restaurant in the garden under the trees. I especially recommend it for spending the whole afternoon there on a sunny day.
