This is a charming and original spot, with an incredible atmosphere that is even better than the excellent food. From the outside it doesn't look as amazing as it does once you're in, but it truly is elegant inside. In January, you can enjoy the view over a lovely snowy landscape, with ice sheets passing along the river. In the summer you can sit outside, enjoying delicious fish.
Sheep walking on the roof, stunning statues, mirrors, red and gold ... upon entering you are immediately overwhelmed by the furniture, which is just the right side of kitsch. The kitchen is trying to be a mixture of Italian and Balkan, although it may not be completely successful. Still worth trying.
This restaurant is a must for its festive atmosphere. It's a little way outside the city, and although it's open all year, it's most popular in summer. The decor is simple but cheerful, with a nice view over the river. The kitchen offers traditional dishes, with both meat and fish available. Often, there are live performances, and once the wine is flowing, everyone starts to dance.
Arranged over two floors, overlooking the Terazjie square, this place is delicious for both an aperitif and for breakfast, when I went and enjoyed a pancake with jam, and hot tea. The decor is like a library, with shelves full of books available to customers, and makes you feel at home. A great place to relax, even during the day!
It's said to be the oldest Serbian brewery. Today it's a spacious room that can accommodate the many customers who flock here during the evenings, for some 'live music.' The decor is neo-classical style, with some great beer barrels. Kazina is not just for a beer, but a perfect place for a break at any time of the day. The cappuccino with cream and sweets is delicious, here you can stop for a quick lunch with international dishes.
This really does seem like you've wandered into the pages of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. The path of that legendary train, which ran through Belgrade, is marked by this splendid bar with its beautiful interior, inside Hotel Balkan.
When I arrived in Belgrade and they warned me that I would really enjoy the food, and the meat (which I love) would freak me out. Today we went to this local restaurant, and upon entering was impressed by the décor, the music, and the fresh smell that permeated the air. I asked for beef with potatoes. The flavor is outstanding, and the flesh is soft and delicate, practically melts in the mouth. The meat is prepared on a tray that is covered with a metal bell, on which are piled hot coals. The result is very juicy flesh. It does not lose any of its flavor and juice inside. We also noticed the bread, they do themselves, and trout, which also has an excellent flavor. We ordered potato and cheese croquettes, which were delicious.
