30 places to eat in Slovakia

Restaurants in Bratislava
Staroslovenska Krcma
This nice and typical restaurant is situated in one of the busiest streets of Bratislava, outside the historic heart of the city. It is one of the oldest in the city, and also has an inexpensive menu. Although at first it looks like a place where they put pizzas in the oven, the truth is that it is not. Their food is typically Slovak and whatever I do I always order the sauerkraut soup because it is incredible. At first it is a bit strange but then you realize it is actually quite good. Don´t miss goulash soup, as long as you like it hot. The place I loved, I would definitely recommend it to visitors.

Minute Fresh Food Bar

It turned out to be a franchise that has many chains throughout the city and in some other towns in the country, and was therefore a good way to eat fast and cheap. We did not expect a hearty meal, but the price and variety of food was very good. Large dumplings seem to be everywhere, with various fillings, from a savory blend of bacon, eggs and spinach, to an innovative tropical mixture of pineapple or Mexican beans. Besides, there are several types of pizza, potato dumplings, salads, pies and assorted pastries with apple, plum and caramel filling for dessert. The drinks deserve special mention as they offer a brand of natural juices with high fruit content, so that a bottle of pear juice for example contains two to three pieces of fruit. The place is clean and decorated with fresh, bright colors. A good option for eating well duing a brief stop before continuing to enjoy Bratislava.

Café L' Aura

How I can describe this beautiful cafe that is next to the Cathedral of St. Martin? It is a comfortable and intimate place to rest while on a visit of the city. A place that seems to be made of many pieces of history, with furniture from all periods of time that give it a pleasant environment. You could also say that they have a large selection of beers, teas and coffees, which come in handy, as it was cold. The cappuccino I had was exquisite, and I was brought the glass of water, a custom that has been lost in other places. It is an enriching experience, to enjoy your drink while your eyes go from one object to another, from one frame to the next or from this to that cabinet. The service is fast and friendly and the prices are not bad. Highly recommended for a stop during a day of traveling. One more thing. Do not miss leaving the building to the opposite pharmacy to find interesting things. I found unique things and unlike anything I had seen ..

The Dubliner Irish Pub
Here you will find an excellent atmosphere. The beef and chicken burgers are delicious. The beer is top quality and it has super friendly staff. After a good meal we were offered a free taster of their desserts, most based on excellent quality chocolates. Surprisingly affordable price.

Al Dente
In a shopping centre just in front of the presidential palace, this Italian restaurant is a good choice if you want to avoid Austrian and Central European cuisine. It has a decent quality : price ratio - the pizzas cost between 6-8 euros, and meaty dishes go for 17.90. The beer is 2.50, unless you try the Saris, a bottle of local dark beer, 2 euros.

Cafe 002
So as not to break the bank (everything is relative when you come from France to Slovakia) for lunch, you can go to cafe 002, which offers a menu of the day, that changes daily, for only €4pp. At that price, you can have a bowl of traditional soup, and any main course you want, all within a design environment where WIFI is free.

Moods
Another hipster cafe is Moods Urban House located directly opposite the bus station. You can have breakfast while waiting for transport in a design environment. There's a small and quiet room, with the walls completely covered with graphics in black and white, it's our favourite, but if it's busy, you can sit at the counter in front of the window and admire the view.

Urban House
In the city center of Bratislava, this is the place where hipsters congregate. You can have it's white coffee (very expensive!) and the carrot cake (more expensive!) in a place of recycled objects and free wifi. It is better to come in the afternoon, when the price of the cocktails and everything else is much more affordable. In any case, the visit is worth the detour to admire the decor.

Le Love In
We stumbled upon this little place in Bratislava, in a very feminine setting, with delicious pastries. We fell in love with the heart-shaped blackberry and white chocolate panacotta. The service is cheerful, and as sweet as the desserts. A place that is highly recommended for a snack!

Castle Brewery
On the street descending from Bratislavia castle, you can find yourself in a brewery full of the Slovak beers. You can even admire the huge copper vats from the outside, and enjoy a drink at any time in the small makeshift bar in the place where it's made.

Presburg
Authentic Central European quality with fair prices. The steak tartar, snitzchel, and chicken kebabs were excellent. And all was washed down with the local lager. A hangout not only for tourists but also for Slovaks. There is wi-fi that is free of charge.

Funki Punki Creperie
The only crepes in the center or at least we did not see anywhere else. It is good, nice and cheap, though, they are only take away as you can see in the picture, you can not enter the store. Crepes of all kinds can be combined as a menu. They also have bargain prices, a crepe cost us 1 euro.

Velvet Café
A good cafe in the Bratislava old town. 11 Laurinska Street has an inner courtyard with two or three cafes and restaurants, among them Velvet. When we went there were almost no other people. It has two rooms, one for smokers, and offers good cappuccino, wifi, and friendly service. What more can you ask for when you're looking for a stop on your tour of Bratislava?
