If you are a big eater and dishes with large portions don't scare you, this is a place you need to go to. They make all kinds of food, but crusted rice is a highlight, typical of the area. The rice has a "scab" above the egg curd formed by pieces of meat (beef and chicken) and various types of sausage (pork sausage, etc..).
It is a bit strong for the uninitiated, but you can always take a nap under the Palm tree ... Its price is affordable and it's very well-connected: you'll find it in the outskirts of Orihuela to 5 minutes from the Murcia-Alicante motorway.
This bar is in front of the Monastery of Our Lady of Monserrate and is run by a friendly lady with easy language (as it the norm when you're out of the big cities). We found it by chance after visiting the monastery, to quench our thirst and relieve our bladder. We ordered vermouth and asked if they had pincho de tortilla. No. Then what do they have to accompany the drink? Pelotillas with cooked or stewed broth - scrumptious. The broth great and, amid a great flavoursome meatball. Where better to eat than is this charming bar, it is very modest but with a good ambience. What else can we eat? Well, tripe, some oxtail - that was a real treat as both were more than delicious and I have never tasted a more wonderful oxtail (and that I've eaten a lot in Cordoba, the birthplace of this dish). The calluses were at or above the tail and with a very special flavor. We finished the meal with a delicious homemade, Tocino de cielo and pudding to share and we truly knew heaven. When it came to pay the quality/price ratio was extraordinary. A very good experience.
In the center of Orihuela you can replenish your strength because you can find different options which are hard to choose between because everything looks great. Highly recommend the pumpkin pie and the different types of aguja (a typical pastry filled with tuna, meat, vegetables...). The atmosphere is diverse, from young couples to grandparents with grandchildren.

Menu price: 9 euros. After eating a potato salad and a seafood salad as a first dish, and a marinated tenderloin with fried egg and homemade fries as an entree, you'll leave this restaurant satisfied by cuisine that, though not very elaborate, is very tasty. Homemade desserts and a touch of old Spanish inn from the yesteryear accompany a large menu which consisted of: First: Andalusian gazpacho and lentils. Seconds: fresh loin, marinated tenderloin, and sole.
