For people who like elegant places and great food, this is the place. A nice place with excelente customer service. I had the chance to go more than once and would recommend it to all travelers with. A good traditional, which they make very well ...
The best pizza in Ponferrada! The truth is that this restaurant did not at all surprise me because I already knew it perfectly well as I have been countless times in Leon, and this particular one looks just like the ones in Leon. Its location is great in the historic center of Ponferrada, just meters from the most representative monuments of the city. Further, the menu is exactly like that in Leon with many different and varied pizzas, salads, lasagna and the best homemade desserts. In Ponferrada it works as in Leon, you always get a pizza tapa with your drink and also when the weather is nice they set up a terrace just outside the premises.
This restaurant is in the heart of the city, a few steps from the Basilica de la Encina and City Hall. However, it would be difficult to find if not for the sign on the corner. It is an old stone house renovated, with several floors and areas. On the ground floor is the wine cellar where you can enjoy tapas. In the basement there's a pub. On the first floor is the restaurant proper. It has two areas: the living room, and a sunroom overlooking the inner courtyard of the house, which is a pleasant summer terrace. It is decorated according to the traditional architecture of the house, a rustic inn. Variety of dishes to share, meat and fish. Mainly Leonese cuisine with typical local ingredients, but made with a certain air of "author". There were two of us and we asked to share three servings: Piquillo peppers stuffed with seafood, sautéed seasonal mushrooms, roast duck with apple, but the specialty is frogs legs. Everything was great and, including dessert and a bottle of wine, we went to 25€ per person. A place of diverse cultures and highly recommended.
Few cafes can say they are at the foot of the Templar Castle in Ponferrada! In our journey through berciana lands, having just visited the famous Templar castle in Ponferrada summer day in July, we needed a drink to cool down until the rest of our friends arrived and we had the great idea of sitting just below the castle. By chance we stumbled upon the Cafe Bar El Torreon. It turned out that we made a great discovery because the cafeteria available with great decor, medieval shields, spears, torches and pictures that took you to the Middle Ages. In our case we prefer to sit al fresco on the outdoor terrace so you can enjoy the wonderful views of the Castle of Ponferrada. All tables on the terrace had an ashtray and napkin holder, covered by umbrellas fantastic. Oh! And most importantly, we were given a great tapa with our drink, as it customary in Leon.
This restaurant has the best views of Ponferrada Castle! Located opposite the Templar castle, it also has the best views of all the restaurants in the area lol ... It is also a great place to start the visit of the historical center of the city ... It has a long tradition in the hospitality sector. The restaurant opened in 1957, offering local cuisine. Daily set menus available from 12.00 euros and varied menus for groups offering first courses such as vegetable stew, paella or lamb and second courses like roast beef or stew and mushroom stuffed sole.
Indeed, if anything characterizes the Encina parties it is the multitude of events and food fairs on offer, which I thought was great because every day you dine in a different place, hehe. The tapa fair takes place every year in the Plantío Park, and is organized by the Association of Innkeepers Siglo XXI. In the enclosure several huts are set up, each with their specialties. You can order tapas as well as rations (slightly more abundant)typical berciana cuisine, accompanied of course, by a glass of wine from Bierzo. You need to buy tickets at the booth. You ask for whatever you want, you buy them, and then go the relevant stall. Prices are somewhat expensive for what you get.Y ou end up spending the same as if you had gone to dinner some rations in any restaurant or winery in town, but ... You are in a great atmosphere! It is open from 12 to 3pm and from 7pm onwards.
The Beer Temple is in Ponferrada! The restaurant Maes of Flanders is an accomplished bar specialising in beers, called The Beer Temple. It is located at number 1 Paseo de San Antonio, right next to the entrance to the elevator of Ponferrada, and near the old city along Broad Street. So it is better known as I indicated for its beers, but is also a restaurant. It has a large terrace that is often put into the two facades of the restaurant during summer.
