Maritime Cemetery
In 1680, the cemetery first opened, and the first plots were dug; back then, it was called Saint-Charles. It was renamed the Marine cemetery in 1945, in honour of the famous poem by Paul Valery, who was in fact buried here that same year. It has expanded over the centuries, and is known as the graveyard of the rich, in contrast to the city's other cemetery, the graveyard of the poor, where Georges Brassens is buried.
