It is an amazing place. Small town on the edge of Lake Llanquihue with views of 2 volcanoes. A big and long promenade for walking, excellent restaurants, the best hotels, surroundings for hiking and extreme sports .. One of the most lovely places in Chile! This is best if you like tranquility, nature and extreme sports

Pumalin National Park

The National Park is very close to Chaiten, about thirty-five miles north on the Austral highway. It has camp sites and beauty unmatched anywhere else. Also you can be seen from different points the Chaiten Volcano. Just like you see in the pictures, it is very active but very beautiful view. I recommend you buy provisions in Chaiten because there is nowhere to buy anything ... Bring a camera because you will not want to forget this place ... There are rivers where you can find truly natural water without paying for it.

Port Varas, Volcano Osorno y Calbuco
(10)
On the stony shores of Lago Llanquihue, stands Puerto Varas. Populated by German immigrants in the 1850's, the town has retained a strong German influence, especially in its architecture. But the town is a mere tenth of the story. The area’s deserved fame lies in scenes not built by human hands. Here is but an image. Much activity today. Children in beige shorts skipping stones at Llanquihue’s edge, their feet muddy and content, a couple paddling over the sawing waves, the blades cutting through the blue, twinkling water, that soothing sound smothering all other noise, behold, beyond the red canoes, flat-headed Calbuco Volcano eyes a conspicuous cloud prodding away from its top, as if shot like ash, trembling and crumbling –silence is heard – and Calbuco sloping seamlessly into rolling mounds before rising again as Osorno Volcano, a conical masterpiece, perfect, with a snowy head, smiling triumphantly in the sun before feathering off into infinity, the children hoping to skip their flat stones to the northern shores. A lonely little, pine-covered island, Margarita, floats smack in the middle of All the Saints’ Lake, the jewel of Rosales National Park and a watery passageway to the border of Argentina. Two volcanoes guard the lake: the previously mentioned Osorno and needle-nosed Puntiagudo. Here is but an image: Osorno’s active cone, as white as innocence, moving into view, past Margarita’s green evergreens, enveloping our entire view, its fiery past betraying its bedazzling beauty, soft and still, almost life-like, a painting, against the calm deep waters, the sun in the background playful and light, the passengers watching through dirty windows wondering how something so beautiful, its leg stretch out into a twenty kilometer splits, could be so dangerous.

Mount Calvary

Located at the top of Puerto Varas, it represents the passion and death of Jesus Christ through the chapels and the small altar that sits on top of the hill. On Good Friday, a representation of the Path to the Cross is made in this place. Besides being an important religious icon, is one of the best places to get a view of the city.

From this small mountain it is possible to contemplate Puerto Varas, Lake Llanquihue and its environment. With a wide and thick greenery, it has many trails and a road that provides access to cars. Besides being a nice viewpoint, there is an adventure sports complex where you can do zip-lining. At the summit there is a cross that is lit-up at night.

Undoubtedly one of the most impressive churches of southern Chile. Constructed between the years 1915 and 1918, in neo-Romanesque and Baroque styles, it was named a National Monument in 1992. Its architecture is inspired by the church Mariekirche of Germany's Black Forest.
