Scandola Nature Reserve is located on the west coast of Corsica. Here you will find a gulf even if it isn't that spectacular. In addition, near the Gulf you also have Porto, another place worth visiting. The most impressive thing about this nature reserve is the small hidden coves to hide its gulfs, the beautiful hiking trails and mountains, red stone, in some cases, can be reached by boat or by road, however the 2nd option is a bit more complicated. If you go by boat, It's advisable to spend the night in the Girolata.
In October, this French island is hot! You need to be in good physical condition, which we weren't, to get to the top and achieve our goal. For once it's not easy, but once you're on top of the top, you'll never want to go back down.
Les Calanques are one of the most spectacular and beautiful landscapes of the island of Corsica. They are located in the Gulf of Porto, very close to the town of the same name, and consist of ghostly rock formations that rise more than 400 meters above sea level, forming thin columns, towers and boulders - the irregular forms are impressive. This is a spectacular landscape that has become a World Heritage Site. Although there is one thing I don't understand, it is considered a world heritage in one area, while another, which is very similar with nearly identical rock formations is not considered as such. This landscape has been created very slowly by wind and sea erosion. The Calanques can be seen perfectly crossing the road D81, but you have to be careful because this road is full of curves and in some areas it is too narrow for two cars. Anyway, along this road there are many parking spots for drivers to stop and contemplate the colossal granite formations that possess impressive colors of ocher, yellow and red. Anyway, the best way to fully enjoy this landscape is to take one of the many hiking routes in the area. There are routes for everyone as the durations and degrees of difficulty vary. I recommend this to everyone who comes to visit Porto, they have the nicest people around Corsica. Porto is also a perfect place to start and end a hike in the Calanques
