I put safari because it is the only category I found that was similar, but obviously only a photo safari. I was at Sepilok in 2006, on my first visit to Borneo, and I fell for these animals which are so similar to humans in many ways. Sepilok is a rehab center where orangutans who have lost their habitat , or were used as pets can recover. The center has a large area of primary forest, and once orangutans are released into it, for gradual reintroduction. They are fed twice a day, at 10:00am and 3:00pm. There's a wooden platform where tourists can take photos. During my visit, a mother and her baby were the only orangutans that came to eat, but the photo was so tender that I didn't mind.
It's one of the places where you have to read the book to feel the magic. It's a hauntingly peaceful place. For the acute soul, you can feel a presence whenever you are inside one of the rooms. Looks like they never left the house.
How could you when it's a beautiful place on top of the hill overlooking the city and the sea, with greenery all around.
